THIS IS THE DOCUMENTATION OF OUR PRACTICE.

HERE WE RECORD THE STUDIES, MOLDS, TESTS, MISFIRES, MATERIAL EXPERIMENTS, AND DECISIONS THAT FORM A BODY OF WORK.

MUCH OF WHAT APPEARS HERE IS NOT THE FINISHED WORK, BUT ITS BECOMING. THE SKETCH BEFORE THE CLAY. THE CLAY BEFORE THE MOLD. THE MOLD BEFORE THE POUR. THE VARIATIONS THAT ARE KEPT, AND THOSE THAT ARE LEFT BEHIND.

OVER TIME, THESE STUDIES RESOLVE INTO FINISHED WORKS, SOMETIMES SINGULAR, SOMETIMES EDITIONED.
THE JOURNAL FOLLOWS THIS CHRONOLOGY AS IT HAPPENS, PRESERVING A RECORD OF HOW EACH WORK CAME TO BE.

marceau Amuse-Bouche

Category: Development
Date: 09-25-2026

Before the meal, a single bite. Marceau Amuse-Bouche gathers the family's drifting relief of kelp, root and seed pod into one capital at the crown, set on a solid billet of glass with no rim. Nothing else interrupts the open face. It is made to hold one thing, and to carry the whole family with it.

A square of cast glass worked into a relief that reads like growth underwater. Tendrils thin to almost nothing, then thicken into real weight, with no sign of which way is up or whether the forms are rising or settling. The Marceau panel holds in that suspension, its color running deep at the base and letting the light through at the top. Made by hand in clay, cast in fire, cooled over days into a stillness that still looks like motion.

We cast the Marceau from a single undulating line and let the kiln decide the rest, so the same form comes back clear and nearly weightless one firing and near-black to amber the next, color carried through the body of the glass rather than laid on top, never the same piece twice.

An altar, set daily, for the ceremony of the meal. The act of eating, kept as rite.

MARCEAU HALF OCTAGON

Whisper-thin at the tips, heavy and rooted at the base. Undergrowth cast in glass, delicate and dense at once, with air suspended in the pour like breath held underwater. Small accidents of the casting, kept, because they belong.

One form, cast again and again across a shifting palette. The medallion holds still, its scrolled relief pressed from a single mold, while the color moves through it experiment by experiment. What we are testing is not the shape but the glass itself: how a frit read one way in the jar becomes something else entirely once the kiln has had it.

Color here is never applied to the surface. It is packed into the body as crushed glass and revealed only by the fire. This is the palette study behind the piece, laid out in full.

Marceau No. 3

Three objects from two Paris houses, made within five years of each other, share one quiet habit: each takes something whole, a scholar's table screen, a vocabulary of Chinese motifs, a garden landscape, and rebuilds it in precious material as an object with an entirely different job, leaving the source legible for anyone paying attention. Cartier turned a Chinese desk screen into a clock and lifted a decorative language into a vanity case. Verger Frères, one of only two ateliers holding the mystery clock's secret, disguised a mechanical photograph frame as nothing but a mosaic garden, its second identity hidden until you flip it over. Read them together and the instinct becomes clearer than any one piece reveals on its own.

We started with the overlooked, the obsessive marine studies of the Blaschkas and reverse-engineered their discipline into an original category. Where they sought the exact, we introduced the brute: a heavy, deliberate obtuseness pressed into the form until precision and force held each other in balance. Iteration is the philosophy, not a phase. What you see is the study that survived, each iteration sharpens the odds...
