This is the documentation of our studio in motion. Here we reveal the inner workings, the molds, the misfires, the material studies, the possibilities behind each piece. Because the underbelly is worth showing, and worth discussing. We continue a practice begun centuries ago, refining old techniques and creating our own. Lately this process has carried us into bas relief wall installations and plaques, all sculpted by hand, cast in glass, and illuminated from within. Much of what these pages record, the sketches, the clay, the firings, is their becoming. What takes shape is written here as it happens.

one flower, every surface

Wright took a single flower and drove it through an entire building: cast into the stone, leaded into the glass, stacked along the roofline until the hollyhock stopped being a flower and became a unit of construction. We visited Hollyhock House on Olive Hill and shot it on Tri-X, no flash, which left us with mass, shadow, and relief. World-building through one invented form, which is the only kind we believe in.

Two squares poured from the same clear glass, and yet they behave nothing alike. One gathers the light into a field of small points; the other lets it run in long, slow swells. We set them side by side to see what the surface alone could change.

Mold Technique Comparison, Brutalist Panel

The twelve-inch brutalist panel, cast twice, so the mold could be the only question. We built it once from a traditional 910 investment mold and once from silkemat and set the two side by side. The method we trusted most is the one that clouded and scuffed. The newer material came back clean.

Silkemat gave us a faster build, a clearer body, and crisp lines, at the cost of a softened corner and some fine detail on reuse. For a brutalist form built on the hard edge, that trade is the whole conversation. This is where we are having it, in the open.

Clock, case, frame

Three objects, built within five years of each other, share a habit worth stopping for: none of them are quite what they first show you. A clock built from the shape of a writing screen. A vanity case whose ornament borrows an entire vocabulary rather than a single flourish. A garden, rendered in stone and shell, that opens on a hidden hinge to release a photograph no one advertised it held. Two Paris houses, one instinct, and we're showing all of it.
